Description
In Djenné, Mali, thousands of people climb the walls of a giant mud mosque each year before the rains. In this mud kingdom, nothing built can last on its own.
The Great Mosque of Djenne is often called the world's largest mud-brick building. On the Bandiagara Escarpment, Dogon farmers carried soil by hand onto bare rock to grow onions. In one Dogon village, a sacred pond is fished on a single day each year, and the elder shares out the catch. Near Lake Banzena, eleven herding communities moved their cattle so Africa's northernmost elephants could keep the water. North of Timbuktu, salt is still cut by hand into slabs and carried south by camel caravan.
In this 4K travel documentary, you will learn what living in Mali asks of every family. You will see how masons hand their craft down to their sons. You will see how elders decide who works first and how scarce water, fish and grass are shared
