Description
In Iquitos, a city of half a million people that no road can reach, some families live in houses that float when the river rises.
The only road out of Iquitos runs into the Peruvian Amazon and stops at Nauta. There, in 2024, a judge ruled that the Marañón River holds rights of its own. At Belen Market, porters carry up to 265 pounds on their backs for less than two dollars a trip. On the Malecón, mansions tiled with ceramics from Seville still stand, paid for largely with rubber-boom money.
This 4K travel documentary shows how people in Iquitos work, trade and heal along the Amazon River. You will learn what the rubber years cost Indigenous families such as the Bora, and why fishermen count giant paiche before anyone takes one. You will also meet the people now raising orphaned manatees and protecting the forest that fills the city's taps.
