30 Costco Items Seniors Will Wish They Bought Before the Power Goes Out

In 2021, a winter storm knocked out power across Texas for days. Grocery shelves emptied in hours. Pipes froze solid in walls that had never seen that kind of cold. And in thousands of homes, an elderly parent or grandparent sat alone in the dark, with no way to keep their insulin cold, no way to charge a medical alert button, and no family member able to reach them because the roads were frozen over too. That is the part of this story most people never hear. For seniors, a power outage is not an inconvenience. It is a genuine emergency, quietly unfolding, in a house that looks perfectly fine from the street. But the seniors who rode it out safely, the ones whose families were not frantically calling around trying to find them a generator at midnight, all had one thing in common. They had already made a few quiet trips to Costco weeks earlier, long before anyone else was thinking about it.
