Why Baseball Works As A Single Elimination Sport

Every August, Japan's Summer Koshien puts 49 high school teams into a single elimination bracket and shuts down the entire country. 3,662 schools enter, one finishes the summer with a win, and every team that loses kneels down in the infield and fills a bag with dirt on live national television. This is the history of Koshien, why baseball is the best sport on earth for a March Madness style tournament, and why the NCAA Division I college baseball tournament should scrap double elimination and build a real bracket. Featuring Shohei Ohtani, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Masahiro Tanaka, the 2023 World Baseball Classic, and the College World Series in Omaha.
