Description
🌲 Every ranger I worked with taught their children the same five rules before they ever let them walk a trail. Two of them are the exact opposite of what most families teach at home.
In forty years with the National Park Service, I spent a good share of my time walking a line through timber looking for somebody else's child. These five rules are what the professionals drill into their own kids at their own kitchen tables: why a lost child must hug a tree, why they have to answer every single call even when they are scared, the two cheapest items in any store that keep a child alive overnight, and the one thing found children keep telling us that I have never been able to explain.
🔔 Subscribe if this is worth taping inside a pack lid. Teach it this weekend, before the next trip.
⚠️ This channel shares backcountry safety lessons drawn from documented cases and official search and rescue guidance. Always follow the instructions of the National Park Service and local authorities.
