6 Things Nobody Told The New Ranger His First Week In The Backcountry

🏕️ Forty years with the National Park Service, and six things I had to teach every single new ranger. None of them were in the manual. Five of those six I could teach standing at a table with a map and a report in front of me. The sixth one I never figured out how to teach at all, because every ranger I worked with has a version of it and not one of us can explain it. We do not bring it up around new people.
