Description
The USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128) is the newest destroyer in the US Navy, and she carries 96 missile cells, a 5-inch gun, a Phalanx CIWS and the new SPY-6 radar. But she does not have the newest gun in the fleet: the 30mm Mark 38 Mod 4 that only the USS Mustin carries so far.
In this video we go through every weapon on the US Navy’s newest Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, from the .50 caliber machine guns to the Tomahawk and Standard missiles. We also cover why the SPY-6 radar is the biggest change, and the key facts about the ship: size, speed, crew and cost.
In this video:
- USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128), commissioned in Whittier, Alaska, on October 3, 2026
- .50 caliber machine guns and Mark 38 25mm guns
- The 30mm Mark 38 Mod 4 on the USS Mustin and which ships could get it next
- Phalanx CIWS close-in weapon system
- Mark 45 Mod 4 5-inch gun
- Torpedoes, decoys and MH-60R Seahawk helicopters
- 96 Mk 41 vertical launch cells: Tomahawk, Standard Missile, ESSM and ASROC
- AN/SPY-6(V)1 radar and the Aegis combat system
- Ship facts: 510 feet long, over 30 knots, about 2 billion dollars per Flight III destroyer
