Description

Built to Last — the old farm ways, all in one book: https://ezrakaine.com How do you get rid of black mold on windows and stop it coming back? Every January a black line grows along the bottom of the windows in this house, right where the glass meets the wood. Last winter I treated two of them side by side. One got bleach. The other got a three-dollar brown bottle from the drugstore. Then I left them alone and watched. By week three, the bleach window was already coming back. By March, the other one had spots too. The bottle kills it, but what keeps it from coming back isn't in any bottle. My grandmother kept it hanging on a nail by every window she owned, and I walked right past it for forty years. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN • Why bleach brings window mold back darker on wood • The $3 drugstore fix, and the ten minutes almost everybody skips • Vinegar vs hydrogen peroxide: which works, and when • What to do when the black won't come out of the seal or the caulk • The side-by-side test: what bleach and peroxide looked like by March • Where window condensation actually comes from, and where else mold hides • How to measure indoor humidity, and the number to aim for in winter • Three common habits that make window mold worse • The two-minute morning habit that keeps it from coming back SAFETY: wear rubber gloves and a dust mask while you scrub. Never mix peroxide with vinegar or bleach in the same bottle. Use one, rinse, then the other if you have to, because mixed they make fumes you don't want in your lungs. Peroxide can lighten fabric, so keep it off curtains and rugs. If mold has spread across a wall in a patch bigger than a card table, water is getting in somewhere and you need someone to find it. Renters: if it comes back every winter no matter what you do, keep it small and put it in writing to your landlord. Tell me in the comments: did your windows run with water this morning? Yes or no, and what state are you in? And which window's the worst? I'll bet it's the kitchen or a kid's bedroom. Mold doesn't come from the window. It comes from the water nobody wiped up. #BlackMold #WindowMold #MoldRemoval #Condensation #WinterTips #HomeMaintenance #HydrogenPeroxide #CleaningTips #OldHouse #Homesteading #OldWaysAreBest #Humidity
