Description
Off the coast of Malta, two grooves cut into solid rock run down the shore — and keep going under the Mediterranean. Nobody builds a road into the sea. In this documentary investigation we examine seven ancient roads, channels and tunnels that lead where today's map says they have no business going — and we test a simple, evidence-based tool for dating them: the depth of the water.
In this video:
• Paired grooves on Malta that are older than the ancient tombs cut through them — and that run straight under the sea
• A mile-long band of 6,900 hand-dug pits in Peru, and why every explanation so far trips over it
• More than a thousand tunnels under Bavarian and Austrian villages that medieval chroniclers never mentioned
• A 3,500-year-old Andean canal that turns water at right angles on purpose
• An English walkway dated by tree rings to a single winter, 5,800 years ago
• The tool that solves the case: why the depth of a sunken road is a date
• Nan Madol: applying the depth tool to a city with a firm official date
📍 Locations: Malta (St. George's Bay, Misrah Ghar il-Kbir) · Monte Sierpe, Pisco Valley, Peru · Bavaria and Lower Austria · Cumbe Mayo, Cajamarca, Peru · Somerset Levels, England · North Bimini, Bahamas · Nan Madol, Pohnpei, Micronesia
