Description
Submerged Arc Welding: The Welding Arc Is Completely Hidden Under Powder! But Why? 🤯🔥 | #Shorts
---
Have you ever seen a welding process where the bright arc is almost completely hidden? 😱🔥
This is called Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)—an industrial welding technique where the welding arc is covered beneath a thick layer of granular flux. As the machine operates, a continuous electrode wire automatically feeds into the joint, melting the metal and creating the weld. ⚙️🔥
The flux helps shield the molten weld from atmospheric contamination and can also reduce visible arc radiation, sparks and fumes compared with some other welding processes. This allows SAW to produce deep, consistent and high-quality welds at high deposition rates. 🤯
However, because it generates significant heat and is mainly suited to larger, thicker metal sections, it isn't ideal for thin sheets. That's why it's commonly used in heavy industrial fabrication, including shipbuilding, large steel structures and other major welded components. 🚢🏗️
So the next time you see this “sparkless” welding, remember—the arc isn't gone… it's simply hidden under the flux! 👀🔥
