I Chose the Wild | Viking Music

I Chose the Wild tells the story of a woman who leaves behind the crown, the hall and the life others chose for her. Before dawn, she takes her mother’s horse and rides north into the cold. Behind her are duty, blood and an empty throne. Ahead of her are snow, forest, silence and freedom. A dark but melodic Old Norse Viking song about choosing your own path, even when freedom has a price. English translation below. English Translation The crown lay by the fire, red in the embers of night. My father’s seat stood empty, but power was not for me. They said: “At dawn, you will rule here.” I heard the wolves calling outside the hall. I chose the wild, frost and pine forest. I chose the open sky, no hand above me. Let them keep the hall, let them keep gold and stone. Better the cold beneath the stars than a kingdom without freedom. I took my mother’s horse, her knife and her cloak. Horns sounded behind me, dogs barked through the valley. Snow covered my tracks, and their voices disappeared. At night I trembled beside the fire, the horse stood close to me. I chose the wild, frost and pine forest. I chose the open sky, no hand above me. I thought of my mother, who never walked this road. Perhaps she saw these forests whenever she looked beyond the walls. I chose the wild. I chose the cold. I chose a life no one could own. No crown. No oath. No borrowed name. At dawn I woke beneath an unknown sky. And for the first time, I was free. Follow Skavira on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer and YouTube Music.
