Description

25 million years ago, a family of great apes with extraordinary abilities began an irreversible march. Throughout the millennia, their descendants would invent tools, language, and love but also war. This epic narrative dissects how a succession of genetic mutations, climate crises, and daring behavioral choices gave birth to our species: Homo sapiens. A fierce opponent to the linear vision of an ape suddenly standing upright in the savannah, this Cinéfilm investigation plunges into the genuine biological breakthroughs that shaped humankind. Our journey follows the invisible thread of our DNA through four major figures of evolution. In the forests of ancient Spain, Pierolapithecus invented bipedalism up in the branches and developed the crucial brain sorting mechanism of restorative sleep. Faced with the drying of Africa, Toumaï structured group politics and initiated the concept of grief. Driven by the need to survive, Australopithecus Sediba left the safety of the trees for the open savannah to scavenge meat, feeding their brains the massive energy required to grow. Finally, Homo erectus arrived as the ultimate endurance runner who mastered fire, invented cooking, and birthed the art of storytelling. This saga offers a journey into the depths of time to understand the one thing that truly sets us apart from other animals: our capacity to tell our own story.
