Description

The C-17 Globemaster III is the U.S. Air Force's heavy airlifter, and one of its jobs is delivering vehicles to places with no runway at all. In a heavy equipment airdrop, a Humvee is rigged to a cargo platform, pulled out the open rear ramp in flight, and lowered under parachute to a drop zone where the unit is already operating. No airfield, no ground handling equipment, no convoy. In this video, we break down how the drop works, what the C-17 was built to do, and why an aircraft that hasn't been produced since 2015 is still the one the Air Force reaches for.
