#Berlin #BerlinHistory #Timelapse 2600 years, one river, a capital that was destroyed and rebuilt more violently than any other city on this channel — and this video finally lets you run through all of it. This video follows a single stretch of the Spree river valley — from the first Germanic settlers who fished and farmed its marshy banks, through the twin trading towns of Berlin and Cölin, all the way to the reunified capital of Germany today. Everything around it changes across 2600 years — its rulers, its ideology, its borders, even whether it exists as one city or two. The river bend never does. One of the strangest chapters is how many completely different Berlins have stood on this same ground: the royal capital of Prussia, the decadent metropolis of the Weimar years, the ruined capital of the Third Reich, a city physically split in half by a wall for 28 years, and finally one reunified capital again. In 1945, more than 80 percent of the city center lay in ruins — and yet within decades Berlin rebuilt itself twice, once on each side of the wall, into two competing visions of the same city. The video unfolds in three parts. Part One – Germanic settlers and Slavic fishing villages give way to the twin medieval towns of Berlin and Cölin. Part Two – The rise of Prussia, the Kingdom, the Empire, and Berlin's transformation into a European capital. Part Three – Two world wars, division by the Wall, and the reunified capital Berlin has become today. Every scene stays inside the same city — the banks of the Spree, from the original twin settlements of Berlin and Cölin outward through the Prussian palaces, the Reichstag, the Wall, and the rebuilt capital of today. The locations inside Berlin shift with every era: the medieval river crossing, the Berliner Schloss, the boulevards of Unter den Linden, the ruins of 1945, Checkpoint Charlie, the glass dome of the modern Reichstag. The locations shift, but the city is one. A quick note: this is a creative reconstruction of Berlin's transformation, not a documentary reenactment. I aimed for historical grounding wherever possible, but across 2600 years of change, some compression and simplification was unavoidable. Behind the scenes: Location basis: Berlin, anchored on the banks of the Spree at the original twin settlements of Berlin and Cölin, with location breaks to historically appropriate sites (the Berliner Schloss, the Wall, the Reichstag) where dramatically necessary ✓ Mapped out the key historical turning points worth showing (full list under "Sources & Research") ✓ Planned the sequence, pacing, and visual progression of a single city through time ✓ Built and refined each location using AI, keeping the runner grounded and eye-level throughout ✓ Filled each scene with era-accurate people, transport, and detail using AI ✓ Animated every frame, then hand-edited, composited, and polished each transition ✓ Layered in sound design matched to the mood of each period 🕐 Jump to Any Era: 00:19 – Before the City (650 – 750) 00:32 – Foundation of Berlin and Cölln (1237 – 1307) 01:04 – The Hohenzollerns (1411 – 1576) 01:44 – The Thirty Years' War (1626 – 1648) 02:14 – The Great Elector (1650 – 1700) 02:54 – Kingdom of Prussia (1701 – 1730) 03:35 – Frederick the Great (1740 – 1763) 04:15 – Napoleon (1788 – 1814) 05:00 – Industrialization and 1848 (1830 – 1849) 05:48 – Imperial Capital (1871 – 1900) 06:35 – Turn of the Century (1903 – 1918) 07:21 – The Golden Twenties (1919 – 1931) 08:03 – Years of Unrest (1932 – 1939) 08:45 – War and Destruction (1940 – 1946) 09:27 – The Divided City (1947 – 1960) 10:06 – The Age of the Wall (1961 – 1988) 11:08 – Reunification and Today (1989 – 2026) 🔎 Where the Facts Came From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandenburg_Gate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichstag_building https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_Blockade https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Berlin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_Wall © I Caught Time, 2026.
