Black to the Future Ep. 10: Henry Johnson and the Harlem Hellfighters (1918)

Argonne Forest, France. May 1918. Wayne lands in the trenches of World War I with the 369th Infantry, the Harlem Hellfighters. Their own army wouldn't let them fight beside white American soldiers, so it loaned them to France. On the night of May 14, Private Henry Johnson, a train station porter from Albany, New York, and 17-year-old Private Needham Roberts held a listening post out in front of everybody. What happened in the dark made history. France honored Henry Johnson that year with the Croix de Guerre. His own country took 97 years. This is the history they tried to forget. Wayne was there to see it. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📱 BlackFeelings494 App: Black history videos, daily discoveries, challenges, and more.
