Roosevelt Daniels: The Chicago Drug Lord Who Ruled From a Prison Cell

The FBI thought they had permanently stopped one of the most ruthless men in the Midwest. They locked Chicago's most feared drug lord in a maximum-security cell, threw away the key, and declared a massive victory on national television. They were completely wrong. Getting arrested wasn't the end of Roosevelt Daniels's multi-million-dollar cocaine empire. It was just a highly secure, rent-free corporate upgrade. Using a brilliant phonetic cipher, completely unknown female facilitators, and early three-way calling technology, this untouchable drug lord managed a massive cartel pipeline right under the noses of armed federal guards using nothing but a rusty prison payphone. Federal investigators spent years building new RICO cases and decoding thousands of hours of wiretaps to figure out how the exact same product was flooding the streets while the boss was locked in a cage. This investigation led to one of the most intense, highly synchronized simultaneous raids in DEA history, forcing the entire United States federal prison system to permanently rewrite its security protocols. In this documentary, we break down the rise of Roosevelt Daniels, the brilliant logistics of his prison phone network, the female facilitators who bridged the gap to cartel suppliers, the massive federal wiretap investigation, and the simultaneous multi-state raid that finally collapsed the empire. This documentary is created for historical, educational, and documentary storytelling purposes and discusses publicly reported allegations, investigations, and crime history. All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
