Description

Scientists Tested 232 Australian Kangaroos — And Their DNA Told a Completely Different Story THE WILD TRUTH ALMANAC, sixteen animals, the old legends, the real DNA studies and what they actually found, all in one place: https://www.thewildtruthalmanac.com/ Scientists worked out the DNA of 232 wild kangaroos at a Queensland reserve without laying a finger on a single one, just by picking fresh droppings out of the dust around the dams, and the answer came back the opposite of what everyone expected. In this one I go through what those pellets said: the bush island is surrounded by cotton and cattle fences, but the genetic gap between the kangaroos inside and the ones outside was about 3 percent, which is neighbours, not strangers, so young males are still bounding across the farmland and keeping the bloodlines stitched together. What really got to me is the number underneath that good news. The effective population, the animals actually passing genes on, was only about 47 inside and 40 outside, and 10 of the 17 waterholes already showed relatives pairing with relatives. I will be honest about where I land on this, you can count kangaroos from a helicopter all day and see plenty, and it tells you almost nothing, and the exclusion fences going up across that country could shut the door before anyone notices it closing.
