Description

Scientists Tested America’s Coyote DNA — And Found Something Nobody Expected 📖 Get my book The Wild Truth Almanac, 16 animals and what the DNA really said: https://gideonmarsh.com My grandfather called every coyote he saw a brush wolf, and I always thought he was just being stubborn, but after reading these studies I have to admit the old man was half right. When scientists tested 437 coyotes from the eastern United States, they came back about 64 percent coyote, 26 percent wolf and 10 percent dog, and that is why the ones crossing your back field are bigger, heavier and taking down deer that a western coyote would never touch. In this video I follow the coyote on its long walk out of the West, show you the northern road through Canada where it picked up its wolf blood, explain how a little bit of coyote ended up inside the Chihuahua, and take you to Galveston Island in Texas, where the DNA turned up a ghost: pieces of the red wolf, an animal America declared extinct in the wild back in 1980. Honestly, that part gave me chills, because the animal everyone blamed for wiping out the red wolf may be the one that carried it to safety. If you have seen one of these big eastern coyotes yourself, tell me in the comments whether it looked like a coyote to you or something closer to a wolf, I read every one.
