Description

Was The Burning a Friday the 13th rip-off? Both movies have summer camps and teenagers being picked off in the woods, but the story behind Cropsy makes that question harder to answer than you might think. I actually enjoy The Burning more than the original Friday the 13th. In this video, I look at its reported early development and how much the finished movie might owe to Friday’s success. There’s also plenty to talk about with Tom Savini’s effects, especially that bloody raft massacre. My conclusion is that The Burning was influenced by Friday the 13th, based on the similarities and production history discussed here. Calling the whole thing a straightforward copy is harder to justify. Which movie do you prefer? And should Cropsy have got another outing?
