This Mazda MX-5 Has Gone Extreme!

Adam Poulton finds out what happens when you take one of the world’s best-loved little sports cars and push it to the extreme? In this episode of Classic Car Stories, I meet Gibbo and his seriously modified Mazda MX-5 / Eunos Roadster — a Japanese import that has been transformed into something very different from the standard car Mazda originally built. With wide arches, a custom bonnet, lowered suspension, bucket seats, roll cage, straight-through exhaust, 4-2-1 manifold, decat and a whole host of body modifications, this is one extreme MX-5 build that certainly doesn’t blend into the background. And the best part? It still isn’t completely finished. Gibbo talks me through the work so far, the ideas behind the build and what he still has planned for this very individual Mazda.
