Description
There is a line in almost every recipe that has stopped more suppers than anything else ever printed. Brown the meat in batches.
Stand at a hot pan in three loads, moving pieces around with a fork while the grease jumps at your wrists, and then start the actual cooking. Twenty minutes of standing before you have made one thing.
Today nothing gets browned and nothing gets boiled. Raw meat goes in the pan, raw rice and raw potatoes go in the pan, cold out of the icebox, and the oven does every bit of it.
Everything is sized for the loaf pan, eight by four inches. Two helpings each. Supper tonight, lunch tomorrow. Cooking for two, use the nine by thirteen, double everything and add about ten minutes.
OVEN TEMPERATURES, BOTH WAYS
I say Fahrenheit in the video and Celsius right after it, every time. There are only four numbers in the whole video.
325F is 170C · 350F is 180C · 375F is 190C · 400F is 200C
Fan or convection oven, take 20C off whichever one you land on.
Tell me down in the comments what cut of meat you have been avoiding because the recipe said brown it first. And tell me what county you are in. I read every single one.
I am Denise. Born on the island in nineteen sixty three, four blocks off the seawall. This channel is the old ways, and where the old way has been beaten by something better and cheaper, I will tell you that too.
