Description

By 1914, Europe had become dangerously unstable. Austria-Hungary feared the growing power of Serbia, Russia saw Belgrade as a crucial Balkan ally, and Germany increasingly viewed a regional crisis as a potential opportunity to strengthen its position against France and Russia. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo turned these tensions into a chain reaction. Austria-Hungary issued an ultimatum designed to force Serbia into submission, Russia mobilized, Germany activated its war plans, and Britain was drawn into the conflict. The film retraces the diplomatic calculations, military preparations and political decisions that transformed a Balkan crisis into the First World War.
