Description

#PocketSoup #MealPrep #FrugalLiving Everybody on the internet discovered the pocket soup this month: a glass jar, the flavor on the bottom, the food in the middle, hot water from a kettle, lunch for about a dollar. My mother sent my father to work with that jar in 1979, wrapped in a dish towel. Here are seven of them the way a Mexican mother builds them, with this week's Walmart prices, the one rule that makes every jar work (the water warms, it does not cook), and the honest part: where the jar is not cheaper than the cup. 📖 My mother's whole way of running a house is written down in one book, The Old Mexican Way: https://oldmexicanway.com None of this is your fault. Nobody taught you to pack a hot lunch, because the store was happy to sell you one in a foam cup. The 7 jars: 7. Sopa de fideo, under 50¢ (cook the fideo first, the water will not) 6. Caldo de pollo con arroz, about $1 5. Sopa de frijol, under $1 (mash half the beans, that is the whole trick) 4. Sopa de lentejas, about 60¢ (grate the carrot, never coins) 3. Caldo tlalpeño, a little over $1 (the lime goes in last) 2. Pozole de pollo, about $1.40 (the five-part pattern for any jar) 1. Sopa de tortilla, about $1.25, the jar my father carried, with the bundle Said plainly: everything in the jar is already cooked or safe to eat cold. Meat jars 2 days, 3 at most. Bean and lentil jars 3 to 4 days. Jar out of the fridge 10 minutes before the hot water so the glass does not crack. Lid loose. One level teaspoon of bouillon per jar, not two. A Maruchan cup is about half a day's salt. This soup is not medicine. Not a doctor, not medical advice.
