Description
📕 The Home Savings Manual — 79 ways to stop overpaying for your own house:
https://brendacarver.com/
Open your refrigerator and tell me there's nothing to eat. Half a gallon of milk, six eggs, a bag of potatoes, an onion going soft, and a bag of flour in the cupboard. That's not nothing. That's a week of suppers. Our grandparents fed whole families on exactly that, and not one of them called it a recipe. They called it Tuesday.
In this one I'll walk you through 25 cheap suppers our grandparents ate when the money ran out, most under three dollars for the whole table:
🥛 Milk toast, fried bologna and eggs, rivel soup, fried mush and the poor man's meal
🍲 Hoover stew, creamed anything on toast, hamburger gravy, tomato gravy and biscuits, and cabbage and noodles
🥔 Potato soup, salmon patties, goulash, wilted greens, the ham bone, and cornbread in buttermilk
🍗 Pancakes and eggs for supper, bread pudding, potato cakes, one chicken stretched into three suppers, and the Saturday pot
…and number one, the one I'd eat for the rest of my life if I had to.
There's no money in teaching you to make supper from an egg and a cup of flour. Go look in that refrigerator again, and keep your money right where it belongs.
If saving money and a fuller table sound good to you, subscribe and stick around — that's what we do here every week. 💛
What did your grandmother make when the money ran out? Tell me down in the comments.
