My books are on sale now 📖 The Prepper's Field Manual, and all three as the collection.

Minnesota's State Fire Marshal says to clear snow from furnace, dryer, fireplace and oven vents in winter to prevent a carbon monoxide buildup, and counts 14 Minnesotans dead from CO every year. The CPSC says a portable generator runs outside only, at least 20 feet from the house, never in a garage, basement, shed or on a porch. This June about 12,000 homes in northern Minnesota went dark after two rounds of storms, and the last waited two or three days. On one home center's aisle, a propane heater's listing said "indoor safe" and "ventless" on the same page, and a bag of ice melt printed its limit at -15°F. Read the label at the shelf, not in the dark.

In this video, we talk about 15 cheap Home Depot tools Dale keeps for a winter blackout at his place up north, and the things on the same aisles he walks past, including the $20 snow shovel that's for the vents before the drive, a 12-gauge cord rated for the generator and the thin cord that isn't, the $579 generator that waits for the load list, a hatchet and safety glasses for kindling, a metal can for the ashes in a drought, a steel ice scraper, 20-foot booster cables rated to -40°F, a USB adapter and work light for a cordless tool battery, a flat bar, a stapler and 6-mil plastic, a door sweep, the orange bucket, long screws for the strike plates, a utility knife and a battery tester, about $336 all told.
