Description
You cannot smell your own house. You will walk through your front door tonight and register nothing, and a visitor will register it in about four seconds, and neither of you is wrong.
That smell is not dust and it is not the house being old. It is gas, given off by things that are eating something wet, and it means something has been damp long enough for them to establish.
So the smell is a symptom. Every rule in this video is about the water rather than the smell.
In this video: the ten dollar instrument to buy before you buy anything else, and the number on it that decides everything. Why sealing a house for heating efficiency creates the problem. Why opening the windows on a warm July afternoon is watering your house rather than airing it. The inch of gap behind furniture that changes a wall completely. And why laundry drying indoors is one of the largest water inputs in an ordinary home and nobody counts it.
I also say plainly which of the popular fixes are oversold. The charcoal and the salt bowls work in a drawer and do nothing to a room. The lime wash argument is real on old masonry and is not why your drywall house smells. And bleach on a porous surface removes the colour and leaves the roots.
