In 2016, Utah became the first state to officially declare pornography a public health crisis. The resolution brought national attention to the state’s anti-porn movement and raised questions about pornography, sexuality and the influence of Mormon beliefs. Brooke, who grew up in a Mormon family before leaving the LDS Church, now runs Mormon Girlz, a porn site inspired in part by her experiences with Mormon rituals and the sexual shame she says she felt growing up. Her perspective contrasts sharply with those campaigning against pornography. Utah Senator Todd Weiler explains the resolution and his objective of protecting children, while members of Utah’s Coalition Against Pornography and Fight the New Drug describe what they see as pornography’s harmful effects.
