Description

Documentaries : Classic Cars : Pierce Arrow Classic Cars : Duesenberg Classic Cars : Terraplane Classic Cars : Corvette Classic Cars : Oldsmobile Classic Cars : Mustang Pierce-Arrow rose from George N. Pierce’s Buffalo bicycle business to become one of America’s most prestigious automobile manufacturers, known for powerful, durable engineering, craftsmanship and luxury. By the 1910s, its cars had become symbols of wealth and status, with Pierce-Arrows even becoming the first cars owned by the White House. Duesenberg combined German-born innovation with American ingenuity, developing from the racing experience of Fred and Augie Duesenberg into one of America’s most luxurious automobiles. The powerful Model J, introduced in 1928, became associated with wealth and prestige before the Great Depression contributed to the company’s end in 1937. The 1963 Split-Window Corvette Sting Ray Coupe combined distinctive design with performance, featuring a split rear window used for only one year. Developed from the Stingray concept introduced in 1959, it was also the first Corvette offered as a coupe and became a significant model in Corvette history. The Oldsmobile F-88 was a 1950s General Motors dream car combining a fiberglass body with a 250-horsepower Rocket 88 V8. After the project ended, one F-88 survived, remained in crates for years, was eventually rebuilt, and now resides at the Gateway Auto Museum. The Ford Mustang became a major success after its 1964 debut, and Carroll Shelby’s partnership with Ford brought racing experience to the model. The Shelby GT500 arrived in 1967, combining Mustang styling with big-block V8 performance and establishing a distinctive place in American car culture.
