Description

Join us for the Catholic Daily Mass Readings and Gospel reflection for Wednesday, October 14, 2026—the Wednesday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time, Lectionary 469. In Galatians 5:18–25, Saint Paul contrasts the destructive works of the flesh with the beautiful fruit produced by the Holy Spirit: “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” These qualities are evidence of a life being transformed by God. If we claim to live by the Spirit, our daily choices, relationships and conduct must also follow the Spirit. The Responsorial Psalm describes the faithful person as a flourishing tree planted beside running water—bearing fruit in its proper season. It proclaims: “Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.” In Luke 11:42–46, Jesus challenges the Pharisees for carefully observing minor religious requirements while neglecting justice and love for God. He also condemns those who impose heavy burdens on others without offering any assistance. Jesus reminds us that genuine faith is not demonstrated through appearances, status or legalism. Authentic discipleship produces mercy, justice, humility and a willingness to help carry another person’s burden. Today, let us examine the fruit our lives are producing. May the Holy Spirit remove hatred, jealousy, selfishness and division from our hearts—and replace them with love, joy, peace and kindness.
