Description
How the Sierpinski triangle is built, and what it sounds like.
The rule: take a triangle and cut out its middle. That leaves 3 smaller triangles. Do the same to each of them, then again, and again. Level 1 has 1 hole, level 2 has 3, level 3 has 9, and every new level has 3 times more holes than the one before.
In this video every hole plays a note when it appears, and holes placed higher play higher notes. Because
each level has 3 times more holes in about the same time, the music gets faster and faster.
Why is it a fractal? Zoom into the top corner by 2, and you see the same picture with one level less. Zoom 64 times and you are back to a single triangle, which is exactly how the video loops.
A fun fact: if you keep going forever, the holes eat up the whole area, yet the shape never disappears.
Everything is drawn from the exact construction rule and all sounds are synthesized, made with Python.
