Description

India has achieved a major milestone in indigenous air defence technology! On July 23, 2026, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Kusha Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile system off the coast of Odisha. The test involved an electronic target simulating a high-speed, high-altitude aerial threat, which the missile successfully intercepted. The system is being developed to strengthen India's layered air defence network and reduce dependence on imported long-range missile systems. In this video, we explain: • What is Project Kusha (ERADS)? • How does an indigenous long-range air defence system work? • What happened during the July 23, 2026, M1 interceptor test? • What are the planned M1, M2 and M3 missile variants? • What are their reported interception ranges? • How can Project Kusha defend against fighter aircraft, drones and cruise missiles? • Project Kusha vs Russia's S-400: key differences • Can Kusha reduce India's dependence on foreign defence imports? • What role could Kusha play in India's future air defence network? • How does this programme support Aatmanirbhar Bharat? **Reported range of planned variants:** M1: approximately 120–150 km M2: approximately 250 km M3: approximately 350–400 km These are reported programme figures, not confirmation that all three variants have completed testing or entered service. Project Kusha is an important development in India's defence technology and strategic autonomy. It is intended to strengthen India's capabilities alongside existing systems; it should not yet be described as a fully operational replacement for the S-400. Watch till the end for a complete explanation of India's indigenous missile shield. Useful for UPSC, CDS, NDA, AFCAT, State PSC and other defence-related examinations. #ProjectKusha #DRDO #IndianDefence #AirDefence #ERADS #KushaMissile #S400 #MissileTechnology #IndianMilitary #AatmanirbharBharat #DefenceNews #MilitaryTechnology #UPSC #CurrentAffairs
