Description
In 1978, China was poorer than Haiti. Today, it ships out more goods than the United States, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom combined. One in every three export containers moving across the world's oceans right now is carrying something Made in China. How did this happen? And more importantly, how did almost nobody in the West see it coming until it was already too late?
In this video, we trace the full story of how China quietly built the greatest export machine in human history. From Deng Xiaoping's radical 1978 reform and opening up policy, to the fishing village of Shenzhen that became a technology superpower, to the tens of millions of young women known as the dagongmei who left their rural homes to power the world's factories for pennies an hour. We dig into how China's accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001 blew the door open to global markets, how a deliberately undervalued yuan gave Chinese exports an invisible subsidy for decades, and how Beijing's Made in China 2025 strategy quietly took over electric vehicles, solar panels, batteries, and drones while the West was looking elsewhere.
We also cover the darker side. The millions of manufacturing jobs lost across the American Rust Belt, the English Midlands, and industrial Europe. The brutal working conditions behind the China Price. The way the Belt and Road Initiative tied over 150 countries into Beijing's trading orbit. And the current trade war with Donald Trump's 145 percent tariffs, China's 125 percent retaliation, and what Federal Reserve economists now call China Shock 2.0.
By the end, you'll understand not just how China took over global trade, but what it means for your car, your phone, your solar panels, your job, and the geopolitical balance of the twenty-first century.
