Scientists Discovered Something in Washington That Doesn't Fit Any Historical Record

In 1987, workers installing an irrigation line in an apple orchard near East Wenatchee, Washington, struck an extraordinary concentration of artifacts buried beneath the ground. Instead of an ordinary campsite or an isolated projectile point, archaeologists encountered a compact deposit containing Clovis points, enormous bifaces, blades, other stone tools, and worked bone objects dating to the end of the Ice Age. Known as the East Wenatchee Clovis Cache, the assemblage includes some exceptionally large and carefully manufactured examples of Clovis technology. Studies have examined 14 Clovis projectile points from the deposit, while the remarkable collection of worked bone includes 14 bone rods. The concentration and character of the objects indicate that they were deliberately deposited together rather than simply lost individually across the landscape.
