Description

Late summer of 1964, fourteenth floor of the General Motors Building on West Grand Boulevard. On the table sits Ford's summer sales tally, more than 100,000 Mustangs in about four months. The worst part for the men reading it was that they had seen that car before, and it had been theirs. Chevrolet proved the recipe with the Corvair Monza, built the car itself in secret as XP-781, then killed it on August 9, 1962, about four weeks before Henry Ford II finally said yes to Lee Iacocca. We cover Bunkie Knudsen saying the last thing Chevrolet needs is another car, the Super Nova on a New York turntable 13 days before the Mustang went on sale, and the crash program that got 1967 Camaros into production at Norwood, Ohio in 24 months against a four year norm. Then 220,906 Camaros against 472,121 Mustangs. Mustang or Camaro. Not which one you would buy today. Which one was actually parked in your driveway, or your father's. What year, what color, what engine, and what happened to it. #Camaro #Mustang #Z28 #PonyCars #DetroitIron
