Description

Join us for the Catholic Daily Mass Readings and Gospel reflection for Tuesday, October 13, 2026—the Tuesday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time, Lectionary 468. In Galatians 5:1–6, Saint Paul reminds us that Christ has set us free. We must stand firm and refuse to return to spiritual slavery. Our salvation does not come from relying on external religious observances but through faith in Jesus Christ and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Saint Paul gives us the heart of today’s message: “What matters is faith working through love.” Genuine faith cannot remain only in words, rituals or outward appearances. Living faith becomes visible through love, mercy, generosity and service to others. The Responsorial Psalm becomes our prayer: “Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.” In Luke 11:37–41, a Pharisee is surprised that Jesus does not perform the prescribed ceremonial washing before eating. Jesus responds by exposing the danger of appearing clean outwardly while allowing selfishness and evil to remain within the heart. God created both our outward and inward selves. He is not impressed by appearances that conceal greed, pride, resentment or hypocrisy. Jesus calls us to interior conversion and encourages us to give generously from within. When our hearts are filled with love and mercy, our actions also become clean. Let us ask Jesus to purify our intentions, free us from hypocrisy and help our faith work through genuine love.
