Sigourney Weaver, The Most Iconic Action Heroine | FULL DOC | SLICE WHO

Sigourney Weaver became an international star with Alien in 1979, turning Ellen Ripley into one of cinema’s defining female characters. The role challenged conventions that had long confined women to supporting parts and helped reshape the modern action hero. But Weaver’s career extends far beyond science fiction. From Ghostbusters and Aliens to Gorillas in the Mist, Working Girl, Avatar and independent films, she repeatedly resisted typecasting and chose roles that challenged expectations. Through Weaver’s own reflections and those of filmmakers, critics and scientists, this portrait explores how she became both a Hollywood icon and a powerful influence on the representation of women on screen.
