Description

A man jumped into Crater Lake and never came back up. What divers found ninety feet below the surface revealed just how dangerous America's deepest lake truly is. On August 18th, 2019, Oregon State University graduate student Sumedh Mannar jumped from a popular rock cliff at Cleetwood Cove inside Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon. Thousands of visitors make the same jump every summer. Mannar never resurfaced. When divers recovered his body the following morning, it was resting on a rock ledge ninety feet below the surface, just above a caldera wall that drops nearly two thousand feet into total darkness. This video covers the full recovery operation, the terrifying science of cold shock response, the park's safety rules and what they didn't say, what the lake does to a body, and the extraordinary volcanic landscape that lies beneath the surface of the clearest lake in the United States, including active hydrothermal vents, bacterial colonies living in darkness, underwater mountains, and silica spires built over thousands of years. #CraterLake #CraterLakeDrowning #SumedhMannar #DeepestLake #ColdWaterSafety #ColdShockResponse #ConsumerForensics #FuneralReport #NationalPark #Oregon #UnderwaterMystery #WhatDiversFound #MountMazama #NationalParkDrowning
