Description
#PreClovis #FirstAmericans #SolutreanHypothesis
In 1970, a fishing boat off Virginia hauled up its dredge, and tangled in the chains was a mastodon skull. Beside it lay a long, razor-thin stone blade. Shaped by a human hand.
That seabed had been dry land during the last Ice Age. And the skull later dated to roughly twenty-two thousand years ago. Nearly ten thousand years before the first Americans were supposed to arrive.
Some researchers looked at that blade and saw something worse.
Not Siberia. Europe.
What followed became one of the ugliest, bitterest fights in American archaeology. And the blade was only the first crack.
