Description

In 1963, the average American family earned about $6,200 a year. A Lincoln Continental cost almost exactly that much, and people still lined up to buy one. For a few short years at the start of the 1960s, Detroit had the money, the talent, and the risk appetite to build cars like sculpture. This video covers 8 of them: the Corvair Europe copied, the split-window Corvette killed after one year, the Avanti built in six weeks to save a dying company, the Mustang that outsold Ford's own forecast, the Lincoln that later carried JFK, and the Buick that Pininfarina itself praised in Paris. By the mid-1960s, new regulations closed that window almost as fast as it opened. #ClassicCars #AmericanMuscle #1960sCars
