Description

Utah severe storms brought a confirmed tornado, large hail, powerful winds and flooding across northern Utah, USA, as intense thunderstorms swept through Davis County, the Wasatch Front and surrounding areas. The tornado touched down in the mountains east of Fruit Heights near Bair Canyon, while dangerous storms impacted communities including Farmington, Layton, Kaysville, Bountiful and areas north of Salt Lake City. The powerful Utah storms produced hail up to 1.5 inches in Kaysville, while strong winds battered parts of northern Utah. Wind gusts reached approximately 78 mph near West Bountiful, and large hail cracked a vehicle windshield in Kaysville. Heavy rainfall also caused street flooding and water ponding along parts of Interstate 15 as severe thunderstorms moved across Davis County. Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms also affected the Salt Lake Valley and Utah County, bringing urban flooding, hail and dangerous driving conditions. Storm impacts extended across multiple communities as flood advisories, severe thunderstorm warnings and other weather alerts were issued across portions of the Wasatch Front and surrounding areas. The confirmed Utah tornado touched down in mountainous terrain east of Fruit Heights, near a ridgeline extending west from Francis Peak at approximately 7,500 feet elevation. Video confirmed rotation reaching the ground and debris being lofted into the air. The tornado occurred in an unpopulated mountainous area, with no initial tornado damage reported there.
