Description

In 1976, one of Ancient Egypt’s most famous pharaohs traveled to France more than 3,000 years after his death. But the real story is even more fascinating than the viral passport legend! 🤯🇪🇬 Ramesses II ruled Egypt for around 66 years, from approximately 1279 to 1213 BC. Known as Ramesses the Great, he left behind monumental temples, colossal statues, and an extraordinary legacy. After his mummy began suffering from deterioration, it was transported to France in September 1976 for scientific examination and conservation treatment. When the ancient king arrived at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, he received full military honours. French authorities had promised that he would be treated like a sovereign. But did Egypt really issue him a passport listing his occupation as “King (deceased)”? According to an investigation by Agence France-Presse, there is no reliable evidence that a real passport was issued. The famous passport image circulating online was digitally created for illustrative purposes. The word “passport” may have originated from a reference to the complex documentation needed to transport the mummy internationally. The historical journey itself was real—and the royal welcome was documented in contemporary news reports. More than 3,000 years after his reign, Ramesses II was still receiving extraordinary attention. 👑🏛️ Follow for more fascinating stories and discoveries from Ancient Egypt! 🇪🇬#RamessesII #RamsesTheGreat #AncientEgypt #EgyptianHistory #Pharaohs #EgyptHistory #AncientHistory #EgyptianMummy #Archaeology #HistoryShorts #Shorts
