Description

Most rifles can handle some American predators. Only a few can realistically cover everything from coyotes and mountain lions to black bears and grizzlies. This video compares the .45-70 Government, .375 H&H Magnum, and .30-06 Springfield using three tests: energy at realistic distances, bullet construction for heavy bone, and whether the shooter can actually control the rifle under pressure. The .45-70 dominates at close range but gives up distance. The .375 H&H offers the greatest margin on big bears, but its recoil and ammunition cost make regular practice harder. That leaves the .30-06 as the surprising all-around choice—not because it’s the most powerful, but because it meets the minimum standard for the biggest predators while remaining practical enough to shoot well. And in bear country, the right load matters as much as the caliber.
