Description
The Burj Khalifa is 2,722 feet tall. Water has to reach the top floor every single day. If engineers had used one pump, the pipes would have exploded before reaching floor 60. This is the story of the five invisible systems that make the world's tallest building liveable — and what would happen if any one of them failed.
In this documentary, we go inside the Two systems that engineers had to reinvent from scratch to make the Burj Khalifa functional:
→ Water — Why one giant pump would have created 1,200 PSI of pressure, burst the pipe joints, and flooded residential floors with a pressurised geyser. And the seven-zone staging system that stopped it.
→ Elevators — Why 57 elevators arranged in a sky-lobby highway system — with express routes to floors 43, 76, and 123 — is the only configuration that prevents 35,000 people from spending their mornings in a lobby queue that never ends. The elevators travel at 10 metres per second. Ground to floor 124 in under 60 seconds.
