Description

Netherlands flood engineering construction: how a country built six impossible structures to keep 17 million people alive on land that should be underwater. On February 1, 1953, the dikes failed. Engineers rebuilt the entire coastline from scratch — $13 billion of construction across 43 years, declared one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. This documentary covers the full engineering and construction process across every structure: the 32km Afsluitdijk built across open sea, the Flevoland polders engineered from drained seabed, the caisson dams built on land and sunk into tidal estuaries, the Oosterscheldekering — 65 engineered piers and 62 steel gates across 9km of open water — the Maeslantkering built to seal Rotterdam with two 210m floating arms, and the Ramspol rubber-Kevlar bladder engineered to rise from the riverbed with no moving parts. What's in this video: How engineers built the 32km Afsluitdijk and closed the final gap in one afternoon How engineers drained a lake and built Flevoland — a province of 1.5 million from the seabed How 5,000-tonne caissons are built on land, floated out, and sunk into tidal estuaries How the Oosterscheldekering was engineered: 65 piers, 62 gates, 9km sealed since 1986 How the Maeslantkering was engineered: two 210m arms that float, swing shut, and sink How the Ramspol bladder barrier rises 10 metres from the riverbed engineered with no steel gates Subscribe to NEXTGEN MANUFACTURING to understand the incredible machines, blueprints, and megaprojects that built our world. #DeltaWorks #Megaprojects #HowItsMade #Netherlands #FactoryTour #Engineering #CoastalEngineering #Construction #InsideTheFactory #NetherlandsEngineering #Flood #FullProcess #Aviation #Trending ⚠️ IMPORTANT: ABOUT THIS VIDEO ------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an educational documentary analyzing the engineering and construction of public infrastructure, based enti
