Sea Turtle Poaching: The Hidden Trade of the Pacific | FULL DOC | SLICE WILD

In the turquoise waters of French Polynesia, sea turtles are both deeply rooted in local culture and increasingly targeted by an illegal trade. Around Bora Bora, Tetiaroa and the Tuamotu Islands, poachers can earn large sums selling turtle meat despite strict protections. Customs officers patrol vast stretches of ocean while conservationists monitor nesting females, tag turtles and treat animals injured by harpoons. At the same time, local communities confront the difficult balance between ancestral traditions and the survival of a threatened species. The film explores the hidden trade, the people fighting it and the uncertain future of Polynesia’s marine turtles. We fully own the rights to the use of the published content.
