Description

During Day 173 of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, JMPD K9 supervisor Sergeant Rico Van Wyk testified that Officer Johannes Makgatle, the same officer later linked to helping murder-accused Katiso "KT" Molefe evade police surveillance before his December 2024 arrest, was identified through GPS tracking data and physical vehicle markings, including a cloned number plate registered to an Iveco truck, in connection with a 2021 kidnapping and extortion case, despite the incident being reported to two senior JMPD officers and never being investigated by Internal Affairs. Separately, the Special Investigating Unit held a media briefing revealing that R58 million worth of municipal land, 208 stands in Ekurhuleni's Villa Liza Township, was fraudulently transferred to private individuals between 2018 and 2022, with attorney Moki Attorneys and his wife personally acquiring 73 of the stands for R18,000 each despite municipal valuations reaching R3.7 million. The SIU has referred 208 criminal cases to the National Prosecuting Authority and will seek a Special Tribunal order on 18 September 2026 to reverse the unlawful transfers, while Molefe, described in testimony as a member of the alleged "Big Five" organised crime syndicate, remains out on R400,000 bail. #madlangacommission #ktmolefe
