7 TOUGHEST Western Actors in Hollywood History! You Won't Believe #1!

Hollywood made these men look tough. THEY ACTUALLY WERE. From an ex-con who served time in San Quentin before becoming a Hollywood star, to James Arness, who was ordered to step into the waters at Anzio because he was the tallest man on his landing craft, these seven actors lived lives that were often more dangerous than the Westerns they appeared in. Slim Pickens survived years of brutal rodeo injuries. Jock Mahoney became one of Hollywood's most fearless stuntmen. Jack Palance survived severe wartime injuries before becoming one of cinema's most intimidating faces. Dan Blocker carried 209 days of Korean War combat into the role of Hoss Cartwright. And then there's Ben Johnson — a real cowboy who won a World Rodeo Championship AND an Academy Award, an achievement the script identifies as unmatched in history. These weren't just actors playing tough characters. They had already lived the life. Welcome to The Hidden Hollywood, where we uncover the darker, stranger, and untold stories behind Hollywood's legendary stars.
