Description

From Vatican City — a single square kilometre — to Russia at over 17 million km², this is every country and territory in Europe, compared in 3D, from the smallest to the largest. 51 nations and territories. A 17 million times difference between the first and the last — the widest gap of any continent on Earth. Every landmass is rendered to true relative scale: surface area is proportional to real area, so what you see is an honest comparison, not a stylised one. A note on Russia: this video uses its total area, 17,098,242 km². Only about 23% of that lies in Europe, west of the Urals — roughly 3.97 million km², which would still make it the largest country on this list by a wide margin. Countries are compared whole, the same way they were in the previous videos in this series. A note on terminology: this video includes the sovereign states of Europe plus Gibraltar (a British Overseas Territory), Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man (Crown Dependencies, not part of the United Kingdom), the Faroe Islands (an autonomous territory of Denmark) and Åland (an autonomous region of Finland). Kosovo is included as a partially recognised state. Cyprus, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are not included — they are transcontinental or outside the scope used here. France, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands are shown with their overseas territories included in the stated area, though the camera frames the mainland. Borders and coastlines: Natural Earth (public domain). Areas: total area, land + inland water. Made in Blender. #SizeComparison #Europe #Geography #3D
