Description
Nobody in that house bought more sheets than the count allowed. In this episode, Eleanor Price explains the counted linen set and the airing cupboard: the three-sets-per-bed rule, the warm slatted cupboard that finished the wash, the stitched initials and laundry book that made the count traceable, the rotation and sides-to-middle repair that spread the wear, and the honest modern version worth keeping.
The old system kept a small working stock counted to a number - one set on the bed, one clean and resting, one in the wash. The airing cupboard finished the drying the wash started, because nearly dry is not dry, and the count caught every missing cloth before it became a loss.
In this video:
1.Why three sets per bed was the whole rule
2.How the airing cupboard finished the wash
3.How marking and the weekly issue made the count traceable
4.The rotation and sides-to-middle repair that spread the wear
5.What the count caught - and what it cost when it stopped
6.The honest modern version worth keeping today
Did the house you grew up in keep an airing cupboard or a counted linen shelf - and would the three-set rule still pay for its shelf space?
