Description

One of you asked a question I should have answered sooner: "If I buy groceries week to week, how do I ever build a pantry?" So today, this is not another $50 meal plan. This is the shelf underneath the meal plan - the first-layer working pantry I would build at 52 if my cupboards were truly empty. A working pantry is not a pretty row of glass jars. It is food with a job. It is the quiet shelf that makes future $40 and $50 grocery weeks possible. In this video, I'm showing the five pantry jobs I would fill first: - Cooking foundation - oil, salt, basic flavor - Meal stretchers - rice, pasta, oats - Protein shelf - beans, lentils, peanut butter, tuna or sardines - Moisture base - tomatoes, sauce, bouillon - Emergency shelf - food for the tired version of you I also explain the One Extra Rule: how to build a pantry slowly if you cannot spend $50 all at once. Simple first-layer list to copy by hand: Oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, bouillon, rice, pasta, oats, dried beans or lentils, canned beans, peanut butter, canned tomatoes, and tuna or sardines if you eat them. If money remains, add bridge items like eggs, onions, potatoes, frozen vegetables, carrots, cabbage, or bread. 📔 My cookbook - Grandmother's Kitchen: 50 Meals Under $5: https://thriftyhazel.gumroad.com/l/grandmothers-kitchen-50-meals 📔 Hazel's Fixed Income Budget Binder: https://thriftyhazel.gumroad.com/l/fixed-income-budget-binder 📔 The printable planners & trackers I use in my own kitchen: https://thriftyhazel.gumroad.com/l/frugal-home-kit 00:00 - The community question I should have answered 00:50 - What a working pantry really is 02:33 - The cooking foundation 04:17 - Meal stretchers and breakfast anchors 06:10 - The protein shelf 08:17 - Moisture base and emergency food 10:51 - The One Extra Rule 11:25 - Food pantry help, dignity, and adaptations 👉 The $40 Grocery System I Use When Money Gets Tight at 52 {https://youtu.be/yv5oSWclkKQ} 👉 My $50 Grocery Week at 52 — Every Meal, Every Do
